Active, Open Calls

Apply to Spring 2026 Narrative Shifts

The call will be open between Dec. 3, 2025, and Jan. 7, 2026.

If you’re looking for community, mentorship, and accountability, our program might be for you.

The call for applications to our Spring 2026 digital residency, Narrative Shifts, is now open. Our seven-session, genre-agnostic program is meant for the writer or artist who is looking to deepen their relationship to their writing. Over the course of seven weeks, residents will learn tools of the craft, receive resources and insights into their own creative processes, and build community with a cohort of 12-16 writers, artists, and activists from around the world.

For our spring intake, there are three cohort options and meeting times — Mondays at 5 p.m. PST, Wednesdays at 5 p.m. PST, and Saturdays at 8 a.m. PST — to accommodate for different schedules and time zones. There is no difference between these three cohort tracks, and you’ll be able to select which ones work for you in the application process. The spring cohorts will run from mid-March (March 14, 16, or 18) through the end of April (April 25, 27, or 29). Each session is two hours long, and there is an eighth “bonus session” that invites a guest writer of the cohort’s choosing for an informal craft talk. Past guest writers have included Ocean Vuong, Alexander Chee, Danielle Geller, Melissa Febos, and K-Ming Chang.

There is no fee to apply, but the program itself does cost $895 in order to honor the time and labor of our facilitators and guest writers. There are two fully-funded seats per cohort (so, six total for the spring), with some other limited financial aid. Payment plans are also available for any paying participant, as we want to ensure that the program remains accessible to our community. You can learn more about Narrative Shifts, including specific meeting dates, topics, and more, on our Narrative Shifts page.
