Open Calls

Apply to Narrative Shifts Mini

The call will be open between March 12 and April 10, 2026.

We’re so thrilled to be partnering with Common Area Maintenance, an amazing Seattle-based, artist-built space and community, to bring Narrative Shifts into off-screen reality.

If you’re in the Seattle area, and looking for community, mentorship, and accountability, our program might be for you. Narrative Shifts Mini will be a condensed version of our seven-week digital residency, comprising four sessions over four weeks, with a celebratory reading on a TBD date at the conclusion of the program. This genre-agnostic program is meant for the writer or artist who is looking to deepen their relationship to their writing. Think process, not product. Over the course of four weeks, participants will learn tools of the craft, receive resources and insights into their own creative processes, and build community with a cohort of 12-16 writers, artists, and activists in the Seattle area.

You can read more about this specific opportunity below, and learn more about our signature program, Narrative Shifts, on our website here. If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us anytime at residency@seventhwavemag.com.

  • Apply: To apply, please visit our Submittable page here. Applications are open now through April 10. It is free to apply. We will be considering applications on a rolling basis until we reach capacity (12-16 writers or artists), so don’t wait until the last minute! All applicants will be informed of final decisions by April 12.
  • Program dates: The program will take place in-person, on Sundays from April 19 through May 10, from 10 a.m. to noon PST.
  • Eligibility: The only requirement is that applicants are located in the Seattle area, as this is an in-person program. As with our digital version, this program is open to writers and artists from all backgrounds, and all levels of experience. You can read more about who this program might be for over at our Narrative Shifts landing page here.
  • Cohorts: For this inaugural intake, we are only hosting one cohort (our digital residency version currently runs three concurrent cohorts for each intake). There will be 12-16 writers or artists in this cohort; it is an intentionally genre-agnostic program, as we hope to encourage folks to learn from and alongside those who practice in other genres (and mediums!).

  • Readings & prompts: There will be weekly prompts and/or readings shared prior to each session so that all residents are holding space for their writing at least twice each week. This is not required “homework,” per se, but a highly suggested way for participants to commit to their practice outside of the four-session container.

  • One-on-ones: Residents are offered an optional 20-minute one-on-one session with their facilitator as part of the program, during which time they can share a (brief) piece they’d like verbal feedback on, and/or talk about any other aspect of craft or publishing they’re curious to know more about. One-on-ones can be scheduled for in-person (immediately before or following a session) or over Zoom based on availability.
  • Celebratory reading: This program will culminate in a celebratory reading that takes place on a TBD date/time after the fourth session. This reading will be held at Common Area Maintenance and be free and open to the public.
  • Cost: The full cost of the program is $450. CAM members will receive 20% off ($360). Payment plans are available to everyone to help offset costs. Any questions, feel free to reach out to us anytime at residency@seventhwavemag.com.
