Vanmayi Shetty

Vanmayi Shetty is a multidisciplinary visual artist with a lens-based background in social documentary and storytelling. Her name when loosely translated from Sanskrit means ‘mother of the forest’ and the narratives in her work stem from a people and planet perspective. She graduated from a 3-year photography program in Goa, India, and her photo stories are rooted deeply in the exploration of themes based on liminality; and the feelings of ambiguity or displacement that occur amongst the people that inhabit these transitional spaces. She believes that any creative work that stems from the intersection between identity and community, has a strong transformative quality about it.
