Active, Open Calls

Looking ahead at our 10th anniversary

We’ve got a full slate of programming set for this year in honor of our 10-year celebration, and we want you to be a part of it.

This year marks 10 years since the Seventh Wave first began back in a small Brooklyn apartment in 2015; since then, we’ve grown to become a global community that publishes, guides, mentors, and connects with writers at just about every stage of their creative trajectory. To commemorate this milestone, we’re excited to share a brand new digital home, as well as some new programs and offerings that have been many years in the making. Below, you’ll find a reflection from our executive director, Joyce Chen, as well as some calls that will be opening in the spring and summer. So mark your calendars, because we truly can’t wait to get to know your voice.

“Art Is Where We Meet Each Other”

In an essay in honor of the Seventh Wave’s 10th anniversary, our executive director, Joyce Chen, reflects on the necessity of art and community in times of grief and confusion as a way to stay tethered to each other, to ourselves. In it, she writes about how the organization is recommitting to its founding ethos of championing art in the space of social issues. Click here to read the essay in full.

“Let us seek shelter and solidarity through our art, because its perpetual abundance is what will keep us afloat, alive.”

Upcoming calls & opportunities

We have a few upcoming calls coming down the line. Read about them in brief below, or follow the links to learn more.

  • March 3: Call for 2025 Community Anthology EICs
    • Interested in curating your own Community Anthology, or mini issue? Apply for the opportunity to work alongside three other editors-in-chief over a 9-month period. You’ll be paid a $1,000 stipend while learning how to write an effective call for submissions, review and select submissions, work with contributors, and ultimately, publish your own mini folio.
  • June 16: Call for Community Anthology submissions
    • Looking to submit work for publication this spring? Then be on the lookout for our 2025 Community Anthology EICs’ calls for submission, which will go live mid-June. Each call will feature a topic of the editor-in-chief’s choosing, so make sure you read their ask in full before sending them your work. If accepted, you will work directly with that EIC to get your piece ready for publication.
  • July 7: Fall 2025 digital residency call for applications
    • If you’re seeking mentorship, accountability, and community, our digital residency program, Narrative Shifts, could be for you. This seven-week, genre-agnostic program focuses on process, not product, and is perfect for the writer who is wondering, “What next?” Accepted residents will receive resource packets, engage in activities and writing prompts, and have access to opportunities like one-on-one check-ins with their facilitator and an optional feature on our website.
  • Fall 2025: Sign up for the waiting list for Well-Crafted
    • This fall, we’re excited to launch Well-Crafted, our paid writer’s hub, which will feature exclusive access to writing prompts and resources, discounts to our One-Time Talks, and free submissions to publishing opportunities throughout the year — all for a monthly investment of $7 a month. Think of this as our insider’s club, meant for the writer who could use a little occasional burst of inspiration and accountability.
