Elizabeth Upshur

Elizabeth Upshur (she/her) is an Afro-American poet and editor raised in the South. She writes in all genres, and her work lives at or is forthcoming from EcoTheo, Gigantic Sequins, Seventh Wave, Sweet Tea Literary Review, Floyd County Moonshine, and others. She is the recent winner of the 2024 Stillhouse Prize and the Lucky Jefferson Poetry Prize. She is a proud Fulbright independent research alumna, and has received scholarships to Bread Loaf Translators, Mendocino, Poets on the Coast, and others. She is the cofounder of The Southern Esesu Endeavor, a digital thirdspace for members of the African Diaspora and home of the annual May 3 day virtual retreat.
