ARTIST’S NOTE: All the conversations in this comic are based on real interactions — as remembered by me — though my coworkers are composite characters, altered in appearance.
Issy Manley is a cartoonist, educator, and service industry worker, currently based in New Orleans. She mostly makes nonfiction and autobio comics about student debt, gynecological pain and the healthcare system, working in the service industry, and climate crisis. She uses comics as a space to explore questions and conversations left unresolved amidst the pressures and routines of everyday life under capitalism. She recently graduated from The Center for Cartoon Studies with an MFA in comics, and her work has appeared on Narratively and Spiral Bound.

The featured artwork was created in response to this piece — incorporating elements of Issy's art — by our Art Director, Meg Sykes.
